Séguier family
   family of French magistrates who served from the 16th to the 19th centuries
   Antoine Séguier (1552-1626), born in Paris, where he served as president of the Parlement, was an opponent of the holy league. Pierre Séguier (15861672), born in Paris and nephew of Antoine Séguier, served as chancellor under Kings louis x III and louis XIV, presided over the Cinq-Mars proceedings and at the trial of nicolas fouquet. He was one of the protectors of the académie FRANÇAiSE,to which he was elected in 1635. Antoine-Louis Séguier (1726-92), born in Paris, where he served as attorney general of the Parlement, was an opponent of both the Jesuit and the Encyclopedists. He emigrated during the revolution of 1789. His son, Antoine-Mathieu, baron Séguier (1768-1848), born in Paris, had a successful career during the first empire, then rallied to king louis XV III, took part in the proceedings against michel ney, and later served under king louis-philippe.
